State of Michigan cutting 101 horse racing dates

Michigan is eliminating horse racing dates this summer because of the state's budget problems. Racing commissioner Christine White signed orders cutting 101 dates at thoroughbred and harness tracks. Pinnacle Race Course in New Boston will lose 42 out of 82 days originally scheduled. Mount Pleasant Meadows will lose 18 of 37 days. Hazel Park will lose 38 days. Northville Downs will lose three days in the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

NBA: : The Cleveland Cavaliers said LeBron James had a benign growth removed from his jaw at the Cleveland Clinic. The team said James had been aware of the medical issue for several months but opted to postpone the surgery until the NBA season was over. The team said doctors believe James will make a complete recovery and will not require any further treatment. ... Chicago Bulls assistant Del Harris retired after a 33-year career in the league during which he was Coach of the Year in 1995 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Harris, 71, is leaving after one season working under Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro. Harris spent 12 seasons as a head coach with three teams. In addition to the Lakers, he coached the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets. He took the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981. He also worked as an assistant in Dallas.

NHL: : The Boston Bruins signed forward David Krejci to a contract extension. The team said it's a multiyear deal but did not disclose financial terms. Krejci led the NHL with a plus-minus rating of plus-36 this season and helped Boston to the best record in the Eastern Conference. He also had career highs with 82 games, 22 goals and 51 assists. ... Center Marek Zagrapan will play in Russia next season whether the Buffalo Sabres like it or not. The Sabres' 2005 first-round draft pick signed a three-year deal to play for Severstal Cherepovets of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, Zagrapan's agent, Petr Svoboda, said.
