Play It Again

May 29, 2009|By Dan Connolly

HOMERIN' NOLAN AND LONG-BALL LUKE

Rookie Nolan Reimold hit his fifth homer of the season to lead off the fifth Thursday night. It was his third straight game with a homer - the only Oriole to accomplish that so far this season. Luke Scott could compete with that but doesn't have the games. In his first game off the disabled list Wednesday, Scott homered. He then did it twice Thursday, including a three-run shot in the eighth for a 5-1 lead.

GETTING DOUBLED UP

Three times on Thursday, an Orioles hitter smashed a pitch to third base. And three times, Brandon Inge gobbled it up and started a 5-4-3 double play. It happened to the Orioles' second batter in each of the first two innings. Then in the fifth, with Orioles runners at the corners, Reimold hit a ball that a spinning Inge snagged to start an inning-ending double play.

ON DECK

Rookie Brad Bergesen (1-2, 5.49 ERA) will make his eighth start for the Orioles and first against the Tigers today. The Tigers will counter with left-hander Dontrelle Willis (1-1, 3.57 ERA). Willis has pitched just one game against the Orioles in his career, and he won it.
