The family of a Baltimore County boy severely burned when two teenagers poured sulfuric acid on a playground slide have settled a suit with the teens' families. An attorney for the family of Payton Potochney says they will receive the maximum payments under the homeowners' insurance policies of the teenagers' parents and guardians, but the amount was not disclosed, the Daily Record reported. An attorney for one teenager says a settlement had been discussed since the $6 million suit was filed last May. Lawyers for the other teen did not return calls for comment. The Baltimore County Board of Education is now the lone defendant in the Potochneys' lawsuit, and a lawyer for the board says his client plans to proceed with a jury trial scheduled for October.

Butchers Hill man fatally shot near home Wednesday
FOR THE RECORD - An article in Thursday's editions incorrectly identified the neighborhood in which fatal shooting victim David Parker lived. His home, in the 400 block of N. Collington Ave., is in the city's Middle East neighborhood. The Sun regrets the error.
A 25-year-old resident of the city's Butchers Hill neighborhood was shot Wednesday morning near his home and died a short time later at an area hospital, said a city Police Department spokeswoman. No arrest had been made. Detective Nicole Monroe, the spokeswoman, said Southeastern District police responding to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of N. Collington Ave. about 10:35 a.m. found the victim, David Parker of the 400 block of N. Collington Ave., lying on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds. Monroe said Parker was taken by a city Fire Department ambulance to an area hospital, where he died shortly before noon. Monroe said witnesses told police they saw an unidentified man approach Parker and shoot him before the gunman fled on foot. As of yesterday, there have been 88 homicides in the city, compared with 79 for the same time last year, police said. Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the slaying.
