Man, 24, fatally shot in Baltimore, police say

Baltimore police said a 24-year-old man was shot several times about 10 p.m. Monday in the 3100 block of Cliftmont Ave. in the Belair-Edison neighborhood and later died of his wounds at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Police have not released the man's identity pending notification of his next of kin. They had no suspects and knew of no motives.

Fugitive mother waives extradition to S.C.

A woman accused of violating a South Carolina custody order involving her 555-pound teenage son waived her right to an extradition hearing Tuesday in Baltimore County. Police say Jerri Gray, 49, of Travelers Rest, S.C., was found last week with her 14-year-old son at a Woodlawn coin laundry. County police spokesman Bill Toohey said South Carolina authorities have 10 days to bring Gray back. The boy was in the custody of social services.

Credit union employee gets 18 months for fraud

A federal judge has sentenced a Pasadena woman for stealing names and account numbers from customers at the credit union where she worked and withdrawing thousands of dollars from their accounts. Twenty-three-year-old Amanda Johnson was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to bank fraud. She was ordered to pay nearly $36,000 in restitution. Federal prosecutors say customers of a Millersville credit union reported unauthorized withdrawals between August 2006 and May 2007. Johnson made the transactions by keeping the names and account numbers of customers who did business at the bank. More than 10 customers were targeted.

Murder solicitation case may go to juvenile court

A 15-year-old Hagerstown girl charged as an adult with soliciting her father's murder is trying to have her case referred to juvenile authorities. A hearing on the matter was scheduled for Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court. Danielle Black faces one count of solicitation of first-degree murder in the fatal Halloween stabbing of 47-year-old Billy Lee Black. Prosecutors contend Danielle asked a friend on a school bus to kill her father because he was physically abusing her. Police say they haven't found any evidence of abuse. They say that when the school friend refused to participate, Danielle said she would ask 20-year-old Alec Eger. Eger is charged with first-degree murder in the case.

Ga. man charge with assault in Ocean City incident

Ocean City police have charged a Georgia man with assault after he allegedly pointed a handgun at group on the boardwalk. Twenty-one-year-old James Mansfield of Hinesville, Ga., has been charged with first- and second-degree assault and other offenses. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond. The incident occurred about 10:40 p.m. Sunday near Ninth Street. Police say Mansfield and a female acquaintance got into an argument, and Mansfield was confronted by the woman's friends. Officers say Mansfield pointed a handgun at the group of people. Mansfield was arrested at Sixth Street and Wilmington Lane. Police have recovered the handgun.
