The B&O Railroad Museum presents "A Visit From Isaac Ridgeway Trimble," 1 p.m. Saturday at 2711 Maryland Ave., Ellicott City. Alan Walden, journalist and broadcaster, portrays Gen. Isaac Ridgeway Trimble, who was born in Virginia, lived in Maryland and joined the Confederate Army. Program is about 45 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. Master gardening advice

Master gardeners will answer questions about plants and gardening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Miller library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City.Information: 410-313-1950.

Football and cheerleading

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registrations for Elkridge Hurricanes flag and tackle football and cheerleading.

Flag football, for ages 5-6, is $85; tackle football, for ages 7-14, is $160; cheerleading, fir ages 5-14, is $125. Practice begins in August at Elkridge Landing Middle School, 7085 Montgomery Road.

Tackle football participants are placed on teams based on age and weight.

Hip-hop classes

The Marriotts Ridge High School Dance Program is holding master hip-hop classes, featuring Honey Rockwell, June 5 at the school, 12100 Woodford Drive, Marriottsville. Class for middle schoolers will held 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; class for high schoolers will be held 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25. RSVP to mrhsdance@yahoo.com for reservations.

Wine in the Garden

The Howard County Conservancy will hold a wine event 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at 10520 Old Frederick Road. Guests can enjoy wine and food while listening to bluegrass music in the conservancy's native plant garden. Cost is $45. For tickets and more information, call 410-465-8877.

Coaches sought : The Ellicott City Patriots Youth Football and Cheer Program, for youngsters ages 5-14, is seeking volunteer coaches for the 2009 fall season. Anyone interested in serving as a head or assistant coach should e-mail James Schroeder at james@istechs.com. Cheer coaches are also needed, including head coaches, assistant coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, cheer gymnastic coaches, fitness trainers and competition coaches.
