"He had a flair for dressing which I would describe as slightly flamboyant. That was his stock in trade," Dr. Fortuin said with a laugh. "I used to tell him he was the Best-Dressed Man of 1945, and that was in 1999."
Dr. Davis retired in 2004.
A man of wide-ranging interests, Dr. Davis enjoyed classical music and had served as treasurer of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. Until giving up his pilot's license about 15 years ago, he liked flying.
"Frank was a man of many parts and many friends, and he was a guy who always had lots of friends," Dr. Fortuin recalled.
There will be a private memorial gathering to celebrate Dr. Davis' life, family members said.
Also surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Mary Teresa McMenamy; another son, Gregory Davis of Owings Mills; a daughter, Tessa Hooper Davis of Wayne, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
