The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $22.3 million contract to Bradley-Nason Construction Joint Venture of Wilmington, Del., to design and build a 75,000-square-foot non-medical chemical biological facility in the southern portion of Aberdeen Proving Ground in Edgewood. Designed by EwingCole of Philadelphia as part of the military's base realignment and closure process known as BRAC, the three-story building is expected to house 360 employees when it opens in 2011.

Banks apply to repay government TARP money

NEW YORK: Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have formally asked the Federal Reserve for permission to repay a combined $20 billion in federal bailout money. The requests are pending and no decision has been made on whether the investment banks will get approval to repay the money and sever ties with the Troubled Asset Relief Program, according to two people familiar with the matter. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the banks' discussions with the Fed continue.

Postal Service has cut 25,000 jobs this year

WASHINGTON: The U.S. Postal Service has cut its staff by 25,000 this year as it struggles to reduce huge deficits, Postmaster General John Potter said Monday. Postal employment is now below 635,000, Potter said, down from about 800,000 in 1999.
