HORSE RACING: : Hollywood Park received permission to cut its schedule to four days a week through June 14. The California Horse Racing Board approved the change that drops Wednesday racing during the current meet. There will be racing Thursdays through Sundays, except for a Memorial Day program May 25. Track president Jack Liebau said a tough economy has meant fewer horses available to race.
NHL: : Julie Walker, the wife of Carolina Hurricanes forward Scott Walker, has cancer. The team says the cervical cancer is treatable and she is expected to make a full recovery.
NBA: : Developer Bruce Ratner says he is ready to break ground on a Brooklyn, N.Y., arena for the New Jersey Nets this year after an appeals court struck down a challenge to his Atlantic Yards project. Ratner says he plans to begin building the $800 million arena this year after issuing bonds to finance the project this fall. ... The Bucks have cleared center Andrew Bogut to begin offseason workouts after tests showed his back injury has healed.
