For the second time this season, Cornell's defense locked down Princeton's offense. The first time, the Big Red clinched a share of its seventh straight Ivy League title. The second time - a second final four appearance in three years.
Rocco Romero scored two goals, Rob Pannell had three assists, and the fifth-seeded Big Red beat the fourth-seeded Tigers, 6-4, Saturday at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y., in an NCAA quarterfinal matchup.
Cornell will play the winner of Sunday's NCAA quarterfinal between top seed Virginia and eighth seed Johns Hopkins in a semifinal at noon or 2 p.m. Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Cornell (12-3) jumped ahead 5-1 at halftime. Tommy Davis and Chris McBride scored to draw Princeton within two goals entering the last quarter.
The Tigers, the Ivy League co-champions, finished at 13-3.
This was the 70th lacrosse meeting between Cornell and Princeton but the first in NCAA tournament play.
Women
Northwestern 16, Princeton 9: : For the fifth straight year, the NCAA women's final four will have a large helping of purple as the top-seeded Wildcats (21-0) advanced.
The Tigers end their season 14-4.
Katrina Dowd matched her seven-goal performance in the opening round, and Hannah Nielsen had six assists.
North Carolina 16, Notre Dame 10: : The host and third-seeded Tar Heels (15-4) outscored the sixth-seeded Fighting Irish (16-5) 8-4 in the second half and tied a season high in goals.
A balanced scoring effort - eight goals in each half - and a trio of hat tricks from Megan Bosica, Corey Donohoe and Jenn Russell led the Tar Heels' offense.
North Carolina faces second seed Maryland (21-0) on Friday at Towson.
Pennsylvania 10, Duke 9, OT: : Becca Edwards (four goals) scored with five seconds left in overtime to lift the fourth-seeded Quakers (15-2) over the fifth-seeded Blue Devils (15-6) in an NCAA quarterfinal in Philadelphia.
The Quakers will face top seed Northwestern on Friday in Towson. Lindsay Gilbride had four goals for Duke.
