Vasquez is projected by many pundits as a second-round pick. But such draft forecasts can be imprecise. Vasquez potentially faces competition from a number of other Atlantic Coast Conference guards, including North Carolina's Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington, Duke's Gerald Henderson, Florida State's Toney Douglas and Wake Forest's Jeff Teague. Spain's Ricky Rubio, Arizona State's James Harden and Memphis' Tyreke Evans are among the top guard prospects nationally.
Vasquez's main assets are his size and ability to penetrate and rebound. He has struggled at times with his three-point shooting (32.7 percent for the season) and his defense.
Maryland coach Gary Williams was attending ACC meetings in Florida on Wednesday and did not immediately return a message left on his cell phone.
