MISSED CHANCES
The Orioles scored five times in the second inning, but it could have been more. Lou Montanez, trying to score from second on Gregg Zaun's no-out single, was thrown out at the plate. Then with the bases loaded out and one out, Brian Roberts singled. A run scored, but Cesar Izturis was forced out at second when it appeared he would have been safe had he slid. The next batter, Adam Jones, homered.
MISSING
The first pitch was delayed before the top of the fourth inning when it was realized that the Orioles didn't have a left fielder. Felix Pie, who started the game there, was back in the clubhouse experiencing stomach discomfort. Ty Wigginton, who hadn't played in left field all year, sprinted out to the position.
ON DECK
Orioles rookie right-hander Brad Bergesen (1-0, 4.98) will oppose Rays right-hander Jeff Niemann (2-3, 5.65) in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Bergesen, who has three straight no-decisions, hasn't faced the Rays.
