No. 1 McDonogh, led by a foursome of two-goal scorers (Ali Carpenter, Kitty Cullen, Taylor Cummings and Margaret Smith), held off visiting Garrison Forest, 12-10, in the opening round of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference lacrosse tournament Tuesday.
In a close game, the top-seeded Eagles (17-1) had their biggest lead at 11-8 and led 12-9 with seven minutes left.
Liza Blue had a game-high six goals for the Grizzlies (7-9). McDonogh hosts Bryn Mawr in Thursday's quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m.
No. 2 Notre Dame Prep 14, No. 12 Maryvale 12: : Three Blazers scored hat tricks, Kelsi Bozel, Katie Liberatore and Covington Stanwick, to power NDP (16-1) past the visiting Lions (11-6) in the opening round of the IAAM A Conference tournament. The Blazers led 10-6 at the half. NDP faces John Carroll Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
No. 7 Bryn Mawr 13, No. 8 St. Mary's 12: : Paige Hanson scored five goals as the visiting Mawrtians (13-5) beat the Saints (10-5) in the opening round of the IAAM A Conference tournament. Kristen Lamon led St. Mary's with four goals.
Boys lacrosse
No. 3 Calvert Hall 15, No. 6 St. Paul's 5: : Patrick Fanshaw scored four goals to power the host Cardinals (13-3) past the Crusaders (11-6) in the quarterfinals of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament. Calvert Hall led 3-2 after the first quarter before going on a 7-0 run in the second quarter. Calvert Hall faces St. Mary's at Towson University Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Baseball
Perry Hall Christian 15, Grace Bible 0: : Right-hander Curtis Simon (4-1) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 as the host Panthers (5-2) routed the Crusaders in the opening round of the MACSAC tournament. Simon went 3-for-4 a double, triple and a homer run and four RBIs. Perry Hall hosts the winner of Calvary Baptist/Grantie Baptist in Thursday's second round at 4 p.m.
Softball
Bryn Mawr 8, Beth Tfiloh 0: : Right-hander Olivia Brocato (9-1) pitched her third no-hitter of the season and struck out 13 in the opening round of the IAAM C Conference tournament. Emani Evans homered in the fifth inning, the only extra-base hit of the game. The Mawrtians (9-2) host Lutheran Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Boys golf
Jason Burton (Calvert Hall) won the MIAA individual championship by one stroke, shooting 73-74 - 147, and the Cardinals (10-2-1) won the team event.
