Hammond's Speierman No-hits Patuxent

Stephanie Speierman threw a no-hitter, broke a state record and helped the No. 7 Hammond girls softball team advance to the Class 2A South regional semifinals by beating visiting Patuxent, 3-1, on Monday.

Speierman (15-2) gave up one run and two walks, and struck out 15, which pushed her career total to 1,351 to best previous record-holder Megan Elliott of Calvert with 1,345.

No. 3 Chesapeake-AA 7, Leonardtown 0: : Lauren Gibson (11-2) pitched seven innings, gave up five hits and struck out 10 to lift the Cougars (16-2) over the Raiders (6-13) in the Class 4A East playoffs. Gibson hit a first-inning homer for Chesapeake-AA.

No. 10 Northeast 5, Atholton 2: : Heather Brown (11-6) had 13 strikeouts to power the host Eagles (13-6) past the Raiders in Class 3A East.

Linganore 5, No. 14 Perry Hall 2: : The host Gators (13-5) scored twice in the fourth inning in Class 4A North. The Lancers (12-2) had the only extra-base hits of the game, a double and a triple.

No. 15 Howard 3, Centennial 2: : A bases-loaded walk to Jen Folger brought home the winning run in the 10th inning as the Lions (14-3) outlasted the Eagles (8-11) in a Class 3A East quarterfinal.

Bel Air 1, Aberdeen 0: : Erin Morrisey pitched a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts as the host Bobcats won in nine innings.

Baseball

No. 3 Severna Park 10, Broadneck 0: : Dylan Taylor (7-0) pitched five innings, gave up three walks and struck out seven as the host Falcons (17-2) no-hit the Bruins in Class 4A East action.

No. 4 C. MILTON Wright 7, North Carroll 1: : Brad Markey (4-2) pitched seven innings, gave up one run on two hits and struck out six as the Mustangs (14-5) beat the Panthers in Class 4A North. Ronnie Zeberline went 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

No. 10 North County 3, Chesapeake-AA 1: : Mike Bronakoski (3-1) went six innings, gave up one run off one hit, walked two and struck out six for the win for the host Knights (15-4).

Harford Tech 9, South Carroll 8: : Tied 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Bryan Reno hit a one-out double to centerfield to score the game-winning run for the host Cobras (8-7).

Boys lacrosse

No. 9 Hereford 11, Fallston 10: : Sean Konkolics had a hat trick, including the go-ahead goal in the final minute of play to lift the Bulls (16-1) over the Cougars (15-3) in Class 3A-2A North. Hereford led by two goals with two minutes left in the game before Fallston scored twice to tie.

No. 14 Towson 11, Franklin 5: : Greg Ginsburg had four goals to power the host Generals (13-1) past the Indians (7-9) in Class 3A-2A North.

No. 13 Severna Park 17, Huntingtown 10: : Sam Jones had seven goals and Sean Price had five goals to power the visiting Falcons (14-2) past the Hurricanes (12-2) in Class 4A-3A East.

Girls lacrosse

No. 4 Mount Hebron 12, River Hill 9: : Julianne Giles had four goals to lead the host Vikings (14-2) past the Hawks (9-4) in Class 3A-2A South.

No. 11 Century 15, Glenelg 8: : Katie Schwarzmann had six goals as the host Knights (12-1) beat the defending Class 2A-1A state champion Gladiators. Century's defense allowed no goals in the second half.
