Detectives Suspended For Leaving Boy In Park

May 07, 2009|By a Baltimore Sun staff writer

Two Baltimore detectives have been suspended as authorities explore allegations that they drove a teenage boy to Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City on Monday night and left him there, officials said.

Anthony Guglielmi, a city police spokesman, said nine-year veteran Milton G. Smith III and six-year veteran Tyrone S. Francis, who are assigned to the department's Violent Crimes Impact Division, have been assigned to administrative duties, as is customary when officers are under investigation.

Howard County police confirmed that they received a call about 7:50 p.m. Monday to respond to the 8300 block of Baltimore National Pike, which runs through the state park, where officers met a teenage boy.

"As a result of that meeting, the officers took the boy home to his residence in Baltimore City," said Sherry Llewellyn, a Howard County police spokeswoman.

Llewellyn said other details, including the teen's age and what he told county officers, were not immediately available.

Guglielmi said internal affairs was told Tuesday and requested an investigation and that the state's attorney was notified.
