James leads Cavs to rout in opener

Newly crowned Most Valuable Player LeBron James scored 34 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who waited nine days between playoff games after a first-round sweep, pulled away in the second half for a 99-72 win over the visiting Atlanta Hawks in their Eastern Conference semifinal opener on Tuesday. James added 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals as the top-seeded Cavs won their fifth straight lopsided postseason game.
Report: Favre to meet with Vikings coach

Retired quarterback Brett Favre, a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player, will speak to the Minnesota Vikings this week, ESPN reported Tuesday. The meeting with coach Brad Childress would take place near Favre's home in Mississippi. There is a mutual understanding between Favre and the Vikings that he will decide soon after the meeting. The team would want Favre to participate in offseason minicamps and training camp.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: : Linebacker Larry Foote, granted his release by the Steelers, says he is close to agreeing to a one-year contract with the Lions. ... The Browns signed free-agent wide receiver Mike Furrey, who spent the past three years with the Lions. ... Former Terps Dean Muhtadi, a defensive lineman, and Dane Randolph, an offensive lineman, signed free-agent contracts with the Packers.
Yanks' Posada on DL, will miss O's series

New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada has gone on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. The All-Star was injured while sliding Monday night and is expected to miss two to three weeks, including the series that opens at Camden Yards on Friday.
ROBERTO ALOMAR: : Former Orioles second baseman Roberto Alomar and his ex-girlfriend have apparently settled her explosive lawsuit alleging he made her have unprotected sex even though he had AIDS. Ilya Dall had sued Alomar in Brooklyn, N.Y., federal court in February for $15 million. Her allegations that he demanded unprotected sex despite Alomar showing signs of HIV were never corroborated. An order from a judge Tuesday says a settlement had been reached. Alomar's attorney, Charles Bach, said Dall voluntarily withdrew the suit, but wouldn't say if his client paid Dall any money.
