Kyle Busch's birthday is sweep success
nascar
Kyle Busch celebrated his 24th birthday with a trip to Victory Lane, winning the Sprint Cup Russ Friedman 400 on Saturday night at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. The win ended a monthlong losing streak - an eternity by Busch's standards - and made him just the second NASCAR driver to win a Cup race on his birthday. Cale Yarborough did it twice, celebrating his March 27th birthday with wins at North Wilkesoboro in 1977 and Atlanta in 1983. "You guys are awesome!" Busch radioed his crew. "May 2nd, baby! Thank you." Busch celebrated the win with his trademark sarcastic bow to the crowd, then swan-dived into the arms of his Joe Gibbs Racing crew once in Victory Lane. The win was his third since arriving in Richmond: He drove to a victory in teammate Denny Hamlin's charity race at Southside Speedway on Thursday night, and used a pass of Carl Edwards with 22 laps to go to win Friday night's Nationwide Series race.
Pacquiao stuns Hatton with knockout
boxing
Manny Pacquiao turned in perhaps the most dominating performance of his career, knocking Ricky Hatton down twice in the first round in Las Vegas before finally stopping him with a ferocious left hand in the final seconds of the second round. Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 knockouts) showed why he is considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world with a surprising knockout that left Hatton lying motionless on his back in the middle of the ring. Hatton (45-2) had lost only once in his career, but he was no match for Pacquiao, who knocked him down midway through the first round and again toward the end of the round. Hatton regrouped and made it through most of the second round before a chopping left hand sent him sprawling at 2:59 of the second round.
Woods fades late again in Quail Hollow
golf
Tiger Woods dropped out of the lead with late bogeys for the second straight day, leaving former Masters champion Zach Johnson with a two-shot advantage Saturday heading into the final round of the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, N.C. Johnson was among the few who survived the "Green Mile," the three-hole stretch of closing holes at Quail Hollow. He made a 12-foot birdie on the 17th that carried him to a 4-under-par 68 and a chance to win for the second time this year. Johnson, at 11-under 205, was two shots ahead of Woods, Lucas Glover and George McNeill, all of whom bogeyed at least the last hole. The final two groups, including Johnson and McNeill, had to wait out a 1-hour, 12-minute storm delay before finishing the 18th hole. PGA Tour officials blew the horn to stop play right after Woods staggered to the finish line with a 70. Woods birdied all the par 5s, including a two-putt from 12 feet on the 15th hole that put him in the outright lead at 11-under for the first time in a third round that featured seven players atop the leader board at some point.
