To ensure that we continue to meet your needs, over the past year we have made changes to help our company succeed, not just survive; a newsroom restructuring that began last week is one of those changes. We have created some new positions, eliminated others and reorganized ourselves so we can more effectively create content and distribute it to you as soon as it happens, and in the ways you choose - in print, online and via your mobile phone.
The Baltimore Sun will continue to have as many news reporters covering the region as before. We retain, by far, the largest news-gathering staff in Maryland, three times as large as any other competitor. Our news reporters will be deployed strategically to provide 24-hour news with a focus on local community issues and events, as well as "watchdog" investigative reporting.
It is important to note that The Baltimore Sun benefits from being part of a larger, diversified company called the Baltimore Sun Media Group (BSMG). In addition to The Baltimore Sun and baltimoresun.com, BSMG publishes 28 community newspapers in the Baltimore metropolitan area, as well as magazines and other Web sites. In fact, nine out of 10 households receive at least one BSMG product every week.
