Train Service Normal After Main Break

May 01, 2009|By Liz F. Kay

After a Baltimore County water main break disrupted train traffic Wednesday, service between Baltimore and Washington has been restored.

Amtrak issued a statement at 10 p.m. Wednesday that trains had resumed trips through the Northeast corridor. And MARC riders were able to ride trains between Baltimore and Washington without having to transfer to bus shuttles.

A contractor for Baltimore's Department of Public Works continues to make repairs on the water main break, said department spokesman Kurt Kocher.

The new line still needs to be disinfected and charged with water, and discovery of other utility lines in the area may delay work for about a day, he said.

Residents of Southwest Baltimore, southwest Baltimore County and Howard County were asked to conserve water Wednesday, but those restrictions have been lifted, according to Howard and Baltimore officials.
