Florida's top veterinarian on Tuesday blamed the deaths of 21 elite polo horses on an overdose of a common mineral that helps muscles recover from fatigue. Florida's state veterinarian, Dr. Thomas J. Holt, said toxicology tests on the dead horses showed significantly increased selenium levels.

The Pittsburgh Penguins officially named Dan Bylsma their head coach after his arrival as the interim coach sparked the team to an 18-3-4 record over their final 25 regular-season games and a first-round playoff series win. Bylsma and the team reached an agreement on a multiyear contract Monday night. Terms were not disclosed.
