NASCAR officials are not considering changing the racing surface at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway after a spectacular last-lap accident that sent debris flying into the grandstands. Vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said NASCAR will study several different safety standards, including the height of the fences surrounding the track. Carl Edwards' car sailed into the frontstretch fence, which bowed but held, before the battered vehicle returned to the track.

Williams, former Net, Tasered at N.Y. hotel

Jayson Williams was stunned with a Taser by police in his swank hotel suite after the ex-NBA star resisted attempts by officers to take him to a hospital. Police were called to the hotel in Lower Manhattan's Battery Park City around 4 a.m. when a female friend reported the former New Jersey Nets player was acting suicidal. When officers arrived, the 6-foot-10, 325-pound Williams appeared drunk and agitated, police said.

More NBA: : Zach Randolph's driving-under-the-influence charge was rejected in Los Angeles County Superior Court, and the Los Angeles Clippers forward was only charged with one count of reckless driving, his attorney said.

Outdoors: : An Anne Arundel County waterman was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt to five months in prison and five months of home detention for his role in a poaching scheme that took millions of pounds of striped bass from the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River. Charles Quade, 55, of Churchtown also was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and make $15,000 in restitution to a striped bass restoration fund. Quade admitted he stole fish worth $151,507 during a four-year period by underreporting his catch and using false receipts supplied by a state check-in station to get more tags, which must be placed on each commercially caught fish.

Colleges: : President Barack Obama prevailed in a brief, impromptu game of P-I-G with a few of the players from the Connecticut women's basketball team, which was at the White House to be honored for winning the national title. "He was pretty good from 17 feet," coach Geno Auriemma said. "His shot's a little unorthodox, but it goes in." ...
