Sunday's Ravens Picks

Nfl Draft

April 27, 2009

LARDARIUS WEBB

Pos.: CB

College: Nicholls State

Drafted: Third round, 88th

Ht.: 5-10 Wt.: 180

Positives: Versatile performer who can play cornerback, free safety and returner. Plays bigger than his size and has reputation as a hitter.

Negatives: Red-flagged by some teams for a character issue. He was dismissed from Southern Mississippi for violation of team rules. Didn't play against top competition for past two seasons.

Interesting note: His 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash tied for the top time among cornerbacks at the NFL's scouting combine in February.

Outlook: Contributor to special teams and perhaps return game.

JASON PHILLIPS

Pos.: ILB

College: Texas Christian

Drafted: Fifth round, 137th

Ht.: 6-1 Wt.: 240

Positives: He is a tackling machine. A son of a high school coach, Phillips stood out on the field with his passion and intelligence.

Negatives: Not an elite athlete. Attended his Pro Day on crutches after tearing meniscus in his knee during position drills at the scouting combine Feb. 23. He might be sidelined for some minicamps.

Interesting note: Graduated in December with a degree in criminal justice.

Outlook: Could develop into core special teams player and might eventually compete for a starting job as an inside linebacker.

DAVON DREW

Pos.: TE

College: East Carolina

Drafted: Fifth round, 149th

Ht.: 6-4 Wt.: 260

Positives: Has size, pass-catching skills and athleticism to develop into solid tight end.

Negatives: Doesn't have great upper-body strength and could struggle at blocking.

Interesting note: Suspended final two games of 2005 season for initially refusing to move from quarterback to tight end and leaving practice without telling a coach.

Outlook: Will have time to develop behind Todd Heap and L.J. Smith.

CEDRIC PEERMAN

Pos.: RB

College: Virginia

Drafted: Sixth round, 185th

Ht.: 5-9 Wt.: 220

Positives: Strong-willed runner who is a reliable ball carrier (no fumbles in first 443 touches of career) and good blocker.

Negatives: Hasn't shown durability or great elusiveness.

Interesting note: Is an ordained deacon.

Outlook: Has to make the cut with his play on special teams.
