Senior Center Celebration

The East Columbia 50+ center will sponsor an "Older American Celebration" May 7 (not May 5, as previously announced) at the center in the east Columbia branch library building, 6600 Cradlerock Way.

A reception is planned from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A jazz concert by the Carl Grubbs Ensemble and free refreshments, provided by Zeta Alpha Sigma Chapter Inc. of the Columbia Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., will be offered from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Library events

The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will hold a meeting of its Black Fiction book club at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The group will discuss Satisfied with Nothin', by Ernest Hill.

The Good Reads book club will discuss The Power of One, by Bryce Courtenay, at 7 p.m. May 13.

Participants in the Morning Books with Coffee book club will discuss The Maytrees, by Annie Dillard, at 10 a.m. May 27.

The library's Teen Advisory Board will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 5. Youths ages 10 to 17 are invited, and refreshments will be provided.

"Finding the Money," a program with a financial aid counselor from Howard Community College on financial resources for college and how to apply for them, will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 7. Teens ages 14 to 17 are invited. Registration begins Thursday. The Anime Club, a monthly get-together for anime fans ages 13 to 18, will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 28. Registration begins May 14.
