Jolie said to next play Cornwell's heroine

Angelina Jolie has reportedly signed on to play Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the crime-solving medical examiner in mystery novelist Patricia Cornwell's best-selling series, according to Variety.

The trade publication notes that although there are 16 Scarpetta novels, this film won't focus on a specific Cornwell title.

In the novels, Scarpetta, the tough-as-nails forensic examiner, has a messy love life and a penchant for opera and Italian cooking. Before relocating to Massachusetts, she was the chief medical examiner of Virginia.

Jolie's rep tells People magazine that a deal is not confirmed.

No evidence of sale

Indian police said Wednesday that they have found no evidence that the father of a child star in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire tried to sell the 9-year-old girl to an undercover reporter.

Police opened an investigation after a complaint from Khurshid Begum, the estranged mother of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali, after News of the World reported that the father planned to put her up for adoption. The British newspaper said the deal is alleged to have been offered to one of its reporters posing as a sheik from the Mideast.

But officers said that they found nothing to back the claim of the British tabloid that the father, Rafiq Qureshi, offered to give up Ali for adoption in exchange for some $400,000.
