Man, 23, charged in shooting

A man has been arrested in the shooting of a maintenance worker during a dispute at a Pikesville apartment complex, Baltimore County police said Tuesday. Kirk Anthony Bell, 23, of the 4400 block of Old Court Road in Pikesville was charged with attempted first-degree murder after Edward Jackson III, 37, was shot in the head Monday afternoon in an incident that was witnessed by several students as they left nearby Old Court Middle School, police said. Jackson, of the first block of Warren Park Drive in Pikesville, was in grave condition Tuesday at Sinai Hospital, police said.

City woman, 45, dies after rowhouse fire

A 45-year-old Northeast Baltimore woman died Tuesday evening after a fire erupted in her brick rowhouse in the 1000 block of Cameron Road, city fire officials said. Fire officials believe the woman died of smoke inhalation, according to a Fire Department spokesman. Firefighters found the woman unconscious in the home about 7 p.m., and she was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, officials said.

Two shot, wounded in separate incidents

At least two people were shot Tuesday evening in Baltimore, city police said. One man was shot in the chest in the 5100 block of Hillburn Ave. in the Waltherson neighborhood in Northeast Baltimore about 9 p.m., police said. The man was not identified, and his condition was not available. Two hours earlier, a man was shot in the lower back in the 800 block of Glade Court in Brooklyn, city police said. His name and condition also were not available.

Budget hearings set for Balto. Co. schools

Three Baltimore County Area Educational Advisory Councils will hold public hearings to take comments on the school system's capital budget for fiscal 2011. All meetings will be held at 7 p.m. The meeting schedule is: Northeast Area, Wednesday at Vincent Farm Elementary School, 6019 Ebenezer Road, White Marsh (sign up to speak at 6:30 p.m.); Central Area, Thursday at Padonia International Elementary School, 9834 Greenside Drive, Cockeysville (call 410-887-3172 to register to speak); Southeast Area, May 11 at Mars Estates Elementary School, 1500 Homberg Ave., Essex (sign up to speak at 6:30 p.m.).

Workshop to discuss foreclosure issues

The Baltimore County Office of Community Conservation and the We Are Family Community Development Center are holding a foreclosure solutions workshop from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Catonsville public library, 1100 Frederick Ave. Baltimore County homeowners who are facing foreclosure can meet with pro bono attorneys and housing counselors.
