Play It Again

NOT THIS TIME

An Orioles offense that entered the game hitting .303 with runners in scoring position didn't get the job done. Overall, the Orioles were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, they had men on first and second with no outs, but Jon Lester struck out Felix Pie and Nick Markakis, and got Aubrey Huff to hit into a fielder's choice. They had men on first and third with no outs in the ninth and managed only Ty Wigginton's RBI groundout, leaving the tying run at second.

SOLID SANS SAVE

Orioles All-Star closer George Sherrill often struggles in nonsave situations. On Sunday, however, he turned in a scoreless eighth to keep the Orioles' deficit at two runs. Sherrill hadn't pitched in four days, so manager Dave Trembley figured it was a good time to get him into the game.

ON DECK

Monday's Patriot's Day game will start at 11:05 a.m. Mark Hendrickson (1-1, 3.00) will start for the Orioles against Red Sox right-hander Justin Masterson (0-0, 4.50). It is the first start of the season for Masterson, who had been pitching out of the bullpen. Hendrickson is 2-6 with an 8.56 ERA in 14 career appearances against the Red Sox.
