Auditions For 'Bye Bye Birdie'

Howard County Summer Theatre will hold auditions for its 35th summer musical, Bye Bye Birdie, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Mount Hebron High School auditorium. Come prepared to sing a song; bring sheet music or an instrumental compact disc. A CD player and an accompanist will be provided.

Help with bullying

The Howard County Public School System's Office of Student Service will sponsor a seminar for middle and high school students and their parents with Jodee Blanco, author of Please Stop Laughing at Me and Please Stop Laughing at Us, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Howard High School, 8700 Old Annapolis Road, Ellicott City.

She will speak about bullying, how it has been misdiagnosed by the mental health community and what to do about it.

A book signing and time for questions are planned after the talk.

Garden club sale

The Cross Country Garden Club will hold its annual plant and bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 2 at 9041 Chevrolet Drive, off St. John's Lane in Ellicott City.

Annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and homemade baked goods will be for sale.

Coaches needed

The Ellicott City Patriots Youth Football and Cheer Program is seeking volunteer coaches for players ages 5-14 for its fall season. Coaches are needed for all ages for the football program. Anyone interested in serving as a head or assistant coach should e-mail James Schroeder at james@istechs.com.

Cheer coaches are also needed, including head coaches, assistant coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, cheer gymnastic coaches, fitness trainers and competition coaches. Training and certification are offered.
