Orioles @ Red Sox

April 17, 2009|By JEFF ZREBIEC

The Red Sox, behind Tim Wakefield, beat the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, but they remain in last place in the American League East. They entered the game with a .237 batting average, the second worst in the AL. Their top three hitters - Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz - are all hitting below .200. Ace Josh Beckett, suspended for six games for intentionally throwing a pitch near the head of the Los Angeles Angels' Bobby Abreu, appealed and is scheduled to pitch Saturday. The Orioles are 6-21 at Fenway Park the past three seasons.
