Christian Walsh Boys' Latin, lacrosse

Walsh was virtually unstoppable in leading No. 4 Boys' Latin to a 16-15 victory in overtime over No. 5 St. Paul's on Thursday. He scored nine goals, including the one that brought the Lakers to within 15-14 with a little more than two minutes left and the tying goal with 51 seconds left in regulation.

The senior, who has a 3.7 weighted grade point average, is being recruited by Notre Dame, Duke, Harvard and Georgetown. Walsh plans to play lacrosse for one of them after a year at Deerfield (Mass.) Prep.

Ashley Thomas Broadneck, softball

With a fine pitching performance and one big swing of the bat, the junior pitcher led the No. 1 Bruins to a 3-0 win over Anne Arundel County rival and two-time defending Class 4A state champ Chesapeake on Thursday.

Thomas, the Bruins' No. 2 starter who also is a first-team All-Metro shortstop, accounted for all the team's runs when she blasted a three-run homer over the left-field fence in the first inning. From there, she limited the Cougars' potent lineup to three hits to claim the win. It capped a 2-0 week for the Bruins, who are 6-0.
