Murder charges filed in Adenhart crash

baseball

A 22-year-old man was charged with three murder counts and drunken driving Friday in the crash that killed Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others. Andrew Thomas Gallo had nearly triple the legal blood-alcohol level when he allegedly ran a red light in his minivan early Thursday and broadsided a car carrying Adenhart and three friends, police said. Gallo could get almost 55 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges, Orange County (Calif.) District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said. Adenhart, who grew up in Washington County, died at the hospital hours after pitching six scoreless innings in his season debut. Flags flew at half-staff at Angel Stadium and around the majors to honor Adenhart.

Armstrong believes Tour ban is likely

cycling

Lance Armstrong said he thinks French doping officials might ban him from this summer's Tour de France over a report that he violated protocols during a recent drug test. In a video statement on his Web site, Armstrong said there's a "very high likelihood" he won't be allowed to race for an eighth Tour de France title. France's anti-doping agency, AFLD, has said the American did not fully cooperate with a drug tester when he showed up at Armstrong's home in France to collect blood, urine and hair samples from the cyclist March 17. No banned substances were found; the dispute revolves around a 20-minute delay when Armstrong went inside the house and took a shower while his assistants checked the tester's credentials.
