No. 4 Spalding downs Pallotti, 2-1, in softball

Right-hander Elaine Nescio (4-1) pitched a complete game, giving up one run on three hits and striking out 14 as No. 4 Archbishop Spalding beat St. Vincent Pallotti, 2-1, yesterday in softball.

Nescio (1-for-3) also had the only extra-base hit of the game, a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the fourth for the host Cavaliers (4-1).

Institute of Notre Dame 7, No. 10 Mount de Sales 6: : The host Indians (1-4) got their first win of the season behind right-hander Kayla Mohr (1-2) and Madison Grant (3-for-4). Mohr struck out 10 in seven innings, holding off a late-inning comeback by the Sailors (3-3). Grant hit two home runs, a two-run shot in the second and a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Northeast 14, Meade 0: : Right-handers Heather Brown (4-2) and Brandi Hope (2-0) combined to no-hit the host Mustangs (2-5). Starter and winner Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Eagles (6-2).

Baseball

No. 5 Severna Park 16, Arundel 8: : Mike Boushell went 4-for-5 with a grand slam in a nine-run fifth inning for the visiting Falcons (9-0). He also had two doubles. Dave Turner went 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple. The Wildcats (3-4) scored seven runs in the fourth.

No. 7 Cardinal Gibbons 3, St. Paul's 0: : Winner Steve Schillinberg went six innings and reliever Andrew Parker picked up the save for the visiting Crusaders (7-1). Blake Thompson homered for Gibbons.

Meade 10, No. 15 Northeast 9: : Chris Crawford drove in the game-winner on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as the host Mustangs (3-5) upset the Eagles (3-4).

Atholton 10, No. 8 Patapsco 0: : Right-hander Kory Britton (2-0) struck out 11 and no-hit the visiting Patriots (4-1) on Tuesday. Britton went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Raiders (6-1).
