For children, Easter is a time for bunnies, colored eggs and baskets filled with gifts. For parents facing economic troubles, the holiday can represent yet one more dent in the family budget. Luckily, there are events all weekend throughout the area, like egg hunts, that are about $5 or less.

Skate with the Easter Bunny: If you like skating and bowling, check out the Shake and Bake Family Fun Center's "Skate with Mr. Easter Bunny" night Friday. Meet the Easter Bunny, skate and bowl from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., all free with skate admission of $5.50. Just hope the Easter Bunny doesn't fall on his cotton tail! Shake and Bake is at 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Baltimore. Call 410-669-9100 or go to snbskating.com.

Easter egg hunt: Each year, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland's office of alumnae relations hosts an Easter egg hunt for children up to age 10. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with registration and crafts, and the egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. on Doyle Lawn. Cost is $7 per child, ages 1 through 10. The college is at 4701 N. Charles St. Call 410-532-3184 to make reservations, which are encouraged but not required.

Easter egg hunt: Rockfield Manor is holding an Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Harford County Kids Magazine, on Saturday. Manor grounds open at 11:30 a.m., and the egg hunt starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 per child, and children should bring baskets. This event is for children 6 and younger. Rockfield Manor is at 501 Churchville Road, Bel Air. Call 410-638-4565 or go to rockfieldmanor.com.

Easter egg hunt: Tydings Park in Havre de Grace is holding a free Easter egg hunt and games at noon Saturday. The event is for children ages 11 and younger, and the Easter Bunny will be there for pictures. Families should bring baskets or bags to collect eggs. The hunt is divided by age groups, with 15 minutes for each group ages 3 to 4, 5 to 6, 7 to 8 and 9 to 10. There will also be a visit from the Easter Bunny, egg dyeing, a jelly bean and M&M's counting contest, family games, Easter bonnet making and a 4-H Rabbit Club presentation. The park is at 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road. Call 410-887-2503 or go to cromwellvalleypark.org.
