Deal Of The Week

Fly away for cheap

What's the deal?: Airlines appear to be nearing the frenzy point with almost weekly sales. So if you plan to jet this summer, I can't see airfares going a lot lower. Southwest has flights starting at $49 each way from BWI Marshall Airport to Albany, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Columbus, Ohio; Cleveland; Detroit; Hartford, Conn.; Long Island, N.Y.; Manchester, N.H.; Norfolk, Va.; Providence, R.I.; and Raleigh, N.C. Flights to Florida start at $69 each way. And $99 each way to the West Coast. All for travel through mid-August. Book by April 6.

AirTran's sale is through April 9, with flights from BWI starting at $49 to Burlington, Vt. Flights to California are priced at $129 each way, about $30 more than Southwest, however their airfare sale is good for travel through Oct. 30.

What's the savings?: The actual dollar figure varies. If you booked a flight to Las Vegas months ago on Southwest, you would have paid $139-$179 each way, and with this sale, that airfare is $99.

What's the catch?: None. If airfares drop even lower, you can always call to see if they will give you a credit or voucher for the difference. More airlines are doing that nowadays to get travelers to book early. Use a Web site like Yapta.com to track ticket prices.
