One man was killed and another seriously injured in a West Baltimore shooting Tuesday afternoon that was witnessed by plainclothes police officers, who were able to arrest at least two suspects, authorities said.

The officers were in the 1500 block of W. Fayette St., in the Franklin Square neighborhood and a block from Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School, about 4:30 p.m. when they saw individuals fire into a vehicle, then climb into another vehicle and flee, said Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman.

The officers followed the fleeing vehicle into the 1000 block of Hollins St., where as many as four men bailed out. Moses said two suspects were caught and taken into custody for questioning.

The victims were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where one was pronounced dead and another was listed as seriously injured. Moses confirmed that a third injured person walked into Shock Trauma, but it was not clear whether the third person was connected to the incident.

Several top Baltimore City police commanders came to the scene, some in street clothes.

A black Toyota Camry, believed to be the victims' vehicle, was parked diagonally on Fayette Street with its blinkers on and back windows rolled down.
