Custom floor plan overlooks waterfront

desirable spaces

When the opportunity to create a custom three-level town house on the harbor front in Canton presented itself about six years ago, Paige T. Davis Sr. grabbed it.

Davis set about altering everything from the floor plan to the floor itself.

"I had them redo the floor plan. I like open space," said the retired executive, who also had the oak flooring on the second, or main, level laid in a herringbone pattern.

Throughout the house, Davis indulged his preference for sleek built-in furniture and cabinetry. Marmorino, a decorative polished Italian plaster finish made of marble dust and limestone, coats the walls.

Now, however, Davis and his wife, Jenifer, would like single-level living.

About the house : The six-year-old town house with 11-foot ceilings has a two-story foyer, two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one powder room. Recessed lighting and speakers are throughout the house. Sliding doors on the main and third levels open onto balconies; the first floor's doors lead to a brick path by the water.

On the main level, the kitchen has custom pale-oak cabinets. Appliances include a 12-case wine cooler, a six-burner cooktop and double oven with a warming drawer. Countertops are granite; backsplashes are stone tiles.

One side of the kitchen features a granite-topped wet bar that opens to the living room and water and city views. Marble surrounds the gas fireplace there. A dining area is off the other end of the kitchen.

Address: 2341 Boston St., #2, Baltimore 21224

Features: The staircase to the third floor's master suite ends at a landing with a large and colorful stained-glass panel depicting a view of Fells Point.

On the third level, Davis took advantage of the harbor vistas by facing the master bedroom toward the water. The home's second fireplace warms the bedroom.

Large closets include a walk-in. The master bathroom, in marble and ceramic tile, has a bubbling chromatherapy tub with a waterfall-style spigot, separate rainfall shower with handheld sprays, and his-and-hers sinks, hers with a vanity.

The first floor's marble tile foyer leads to a bedroom, which the couple uses as a family room, with a bathroom.

The house has a two-car garage with storage, plus two parking spaces.
