State Men's Week Ahead

No. 6 Johns Hopkins (3-3)

Coming up: At No. 13 North Carolina, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Comment: At one point, the Blue Jays won 13 straight in this series, but the Tar Heels have taken the past two games. Attackman Chris Boland's six goals against Virginia on Saturday doubled his season total.

No. 8 UMBC (5-2)

Coming up: At Stony Brook, Saturday, 2:30 p.m.; vs. Towson, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., UMBC Stadium

Comment: The Retrievers have a 9-4 record against the Sea Wolves and have won the past three meetings. Midfielder Alex Hopmann's 15 goals have surpassed last season's total of 13.

No. 9 Maryland (6-2)

Coming up: At No. 1 Virginia, Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

Comment: The Terps have dropped six of the past seven meetings but have split the past four games when the Cavaliers have been the nation's top-ranked team. Midfielder Dan Groot has seven goals and an assist in his career against Virginia.

No. 17 Navy (6-3)

Coming up: At Georgetown, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Midshipmen have lost six of the past seven meetings, four by two goals or fewer. All six of freshman midfielder Nikk Davis' points have come on the road.

No. 19 Loyola (5-3)

Coming up: Vs. No. 2 Syracuse, Saturday, noon, Diane Geppi-Aikens Field

Comment: The Greyhounds have won only five times in the 23-game series, but four of those wins have come on Loyola's home field. P.T. Ricci and Steve Layne rank 1-2 on the team in caused turnovers.

Mount St. Mary's (1-4)

Coming up: Vs. Lafayette, Saturday, 1 p.m., Waldron Family Stadium; vs. Georgetown, Tuesday, 4 p.m., Waldron Family Stadium

Comment: The Mountaineers get a break from their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule. Freshman Anthony Golden has scored four times in five tries.

Towson (2-4)

Coming up: At Drexel, Saturday, 3 p.m.;

at No. 8 UMBC, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

Comment: The Tigers' 10-game winning streak against the Dragons ended last season, but Towson leads the series 34-4. Goalkeeper Rob Wheeler made a career-high 14 saves and posted an assist in Tuesday's upset of Bucknell.
