Tuesday's Game

March 24, 2009

[1] Maryland (29-4) vs. [9] Utah (23-9)

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Comcast Center,

College Park

WINNER FACES: Vanderbilt-Kansas State winner Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.

THE GAME: In its 82-53 first-round victory over Dartmouth, Maryland held a 52-34 rebounding edge and scored 20 points off fast breaks. Those two abilities are what make the Terrapins especially dangerous, according to Utah coach Elaine Elliott. "Maryland's transition game is really more like you're not ready to defend that soon, and they're ready to shoot and go at you that soon," she said. Utah prefers to play a more deliberate style.

THE CROWD: Comcast Center held the most fans (10,847) of any of the 16 first-round women's sites, and another big crowd is expected tonight. But don't expect the Utes to be intimidated; they won at New Mexico in front of 9,527 in February. The Terps will be especially motivated because this is the last home game for Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver, who are 64-3 at Comcast Center.
