Roosevelt girls win title again

Eleanor Roosevelt won its fifth consecutive state championship, matching a state record for girls basketball, with a 67-39 victory over Blake in the Class 4A final yesterday at UMBC's RAC Arena.

Olivia Applewhite had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Raiders of Prince George's County, who tied the mark set by Art St. Martin's Brooklyn Park program from 1985 to 1989.

Roosevelt (25-1), which defeated No. 5 Arundel in the semifinals, finished the season with a 21-game winning streak. Danielle Douglas led the first-time finalist Bengals (22-6) of Montgomery County with 12 points.

No. 1 Seton Keough 55, Elizabeth Seton 43: : Asya Bussie had a game-high 27 points to power the Gators (24-8) past the Roadrunners in the championship of the Bishop Walsh Invitational in Cumberland.

No.2 St. Frances won the consolation game, 64-55, over Good Counsel.


Springbrook 73, Wise 61: : Montgomery County's Springbrook (27-0) used 21 points from Jamal Olasewere to go undefeated and win its second consecutive Class 4A state championship at Comcast Center.
