Eric Devendorf scored all 19 of his points in a technical-filled second half and No. 18 Syracuse pulled away for an 89-74 victory over Seton Hall last night in the second round of the Big East tournament in Madison Square Garden in New York.

Jonny Flynn had 19 points and 11 assists for the sixth-seeded Orange (24-8), which will face third-seeded and third-ranked Connecticut in the quarterfinals tonight. Jeremy Hazell had 27 points for the 11th-seeded Pirates (17-15), who had advanced to the second round with a 68-54 victory over South Florida.

Other Big East: : West Virginia (22-10) stopped Luke Harangody, the conference's regular-season scoring leader, in the first half and held on for a 74-62 victory over Notre Dame (18-14). ... Marquette (24-8) held St. John's (16-17) to 10 points in the first half, a tournament-record low, and won, 74-45. ... Sharaud Curry scored 25 points and Providence (19-12) held DePaul (9-24) without a field goal for nearly eight minutes to beat the surprising Blue Demons, 83-74.

Atlantic 10: : Kwamain Mitchell scored 18 points, including a layup with 1.8 seconds left in overtime, to lift Saint Louis (18-13) to a 62-60 victory over La Salle (18-13) in the first round of the conference tournament in Atlantic City, N.J. ... Melquan Bolding had 23 points to lead five Duquesne (19-11) players in double figures in the Dukes' 91-81 victory over Massachusetts (12-18). ... Tasheed Carr scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead Saint Joseph's (17-14) to a 72-62 win over Charlotte (11-20). ... Kevin Anderson scored 22 points to carry sixth-seeded Richmond (18-14) to an 65-49 win over No. 11 St. Bonaventure (15-15).

Pacific-10: : Anthony Goods scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half as Stanford (18-12) rallied to beat Oregon State (13-17), 62-54, in a first-round game in Los Angeles.

Big 12: : Marshall Moses matched his career high with 18 points and provided a much-needed inside threat as Oklahoma State (21-10) held off scrappy Iowa State (15-17), 81-67, in the first round of the conference tournament in Oklahoma City. ... Curtis Jerrells scored 19 points and Kevin Rogers had 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds as Baylor (18-13) beat Nebraska (18-12), 65-49.

Conference USA: : Kevin Sims scored 23 points and handed out six assists for Tulane (14-16) in a 69-59 win over East Carolina (13-17) in the opening round in Memphis, Tenn. ... Lawrence Ghoram scored 18 points and Rice (10-21) held off a late Marshall rally to defeat the Thundering Herd (15-17) ... Aubrey Coleman had 20 points and 14 rebounds as Houston (20-10) defeated Southern Methodist (9-21), 85-76.

Women

Florida A&M 64, Coppin State 43: : Senior Danielle Anders scored 17 points for the Eagles and Sesalie Johnson added 10, but Deidra Jones scored 21 points and the seventh-seeded Rattlers (13-16) outscored the Eagles (14-14) 44-19 in the second half of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference quarterfinal in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Lehigh 64, Lafayette 56: : Alex Ross hit six three-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the host Mountain Hawks (26-6) to their first Patriot League title in 12 years.
