Patrick James Rhodes Sr., a retired real estate agent and an avid golfer, died of congestive heart failure March 1 at his Annapolis home. He was 82.
Mr. Rhodes was born and raised in Washington and was a 1944 graduate of St. John's College High School.
After serving in the Marine Corps during the waning days of World War II, Mr. Rhodes attended the University of Maryland, College Park.
He earned his real estate license and worked for Eugene Fry Co. in Bethesda, and later with the Roger H. Spencer Co. in Rockville. He retired in the 1980s.
Mr. Rhodes was a member of the Walden Country Club in Crofton, where he enjoyed playing golf.
"On his 71st birthday, he shot a score of 71. He always thought it was his claim to fame," said a daughter, Denise Rhodes Bonner of Annapolis.
He also liked fishing.
Mr. Rhodes was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis.
Services are private.
Also surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Sharkey; two sons, Patrick J. Rhodes Jr. of Middleburg, Va., and John T. Rhodes of Ocean View, Del.; two other daughters, Margaret Rhodes Jacobs of Gaithersburg and Diana Rhodes Levinson of Redding, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
