A Dundalk man has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence after he struck a Maryland state trooper issuing a ticket on Interstate 695 at Perring Parkway, police said. The trooper, identified only as Trooper Rosenfeld, was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and released, police said yesterday. Michael J. Polanowski, 37, of the 7900 block of Diehlwood Road, is accused of driving a 2005 Nissan that drifted onto the shoulder just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday and struck the trooper's vehicle, which then struck the 1998 Hyundai he had pulled over, police said. Rosenfeld, who was sitting in his patrol car, was the only person injured in the crash, police said. Polanowski was being held on $10,000 bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said.

Park School ends ties with affiliate of fraud defendant

4

The head of Park School in Brooklandville said in a letter to parents yesterday that the school has severed all ties with Stanford Institutional Consulting, an affiliate of a Texas-based investment firm that federal authorities have accused of large-scale fraud. Dan Paradis, Park's head of school, also acknowledged in the letter that $20,000 of the school's money had been invested by Silver Creek Low Vol Strategies Ltd. with Bernard Madoff. Stanford Financial Group recently opened a Baltimore affiliate, and Park's investment consultants, the Aitken-Thacker Group, moved its practice there. Park had not invested any money directly with Stanford Institutional Consulting and has no assets at risk as a result of the parent company's current troubles, Paradis said. Park's funds are primarily held in a custodial account with Charles Schwab International.

A Middle River man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son in December, Baltimore County police said yesterday. Rodje Sherod Williams, 22, of the first block of Ambo Circle was arrested in the death of Sincere Nasir Hunt on Dec. 15, police said. Authorities went to Ambo Circle on a medical assistance call involving an unconscious child and took the boy to Franklin Square Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead. The boy's body was bruised, prompting an investigation, but the medical examiner's office was not immediately able to determine the cause of death, police said. The medical examiner recently ruled the death a homicide, police said, and Williams was arrested. The victim's mother and Williams were dating and living together at the time of the toddler's death, police said. Williams was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
