Man, 29, charged after shooting outside Club One

A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder yesterday after police used surveillance cameras to identify a suspect in a shooting outside a downtown Baltimore club and tracked him as he fled.

Police said a large crowd was dispersing from Club One about 1:40 a.m. after an occupancy violation when someone fired multiple shots and struck two women in the 300 block of Holliday St. The victims were hit the lower body and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. A man fled into an adjacent parking lot and, with the assistance of camera operators, was apprehended by officers after a brief foot pursuit, police said. Police identified Dennis Bullock of the 2600 block of Edmondson Ave. as the suspect in the shooting.

The incident was at least the second shooting outside a city club this weekend. Michael K. Davis was fatally shot in the head early Saturday after an altercation outside Whitten's bar on Erdman Avenue.

In a news release, Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III said violence at Club One, a block north of City Hall, has been persistent.

"Issues of violence around the Club One establishment continue to be a concern for the Baltimore Police Department," Bealefeld said. "We have invested in technological systems that enable us to help provide a margin of safety and station our officers in locations to avert violence. If and when violence occurs, we are prepared."

Bullock was charged in 2005 with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 39-year-old man, but the charges were dropped. Records show that he is on probation through June stemming from a theft conviction in Anne Arundel County.
