NHL: : Alex Ovechkin scored three goals for his seventh career hat trick and second of the season to lead the host Washington Capitals to a 7-4 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Ovechkin scored his goals in the first two periods with Sergei Fedorov getting assists on each.

NBA: : Paul Pierce scored 36 points with eight rebounds and six assists, and the Boston Celtics won their 11th straight game, beating the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-101, while Kevin Garnett was out sick. Al Jefferson scored 34 for the Timberwolves. ... LeBron James scored 33 and Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson sparked a 15-2 fourth-quarter run as the visiting Cavaliers beat the Pistons, 90-80, for their sixth win in seven games. ... Dwight Howard had 29 points and 14 rebounds, and visiting Orlando never trailed in beating host Toronto, 113-90, for its third straight win. ... Kevin Martin scored 37 and host Sacramento beat Oklahoma City, 122-118, in overtime to end an eight-game losing streak.

Golf: : After bogeying the final hole of regulation, Kenny Perry finished off Charley Hoffman in a playoff, making a 22-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole in the PGA FBR Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.
