New hotels in New York

What's the deal?: A couple of new hotels in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood are celebrating their grand openings with reduced hotel rates.

The GEM Hotel Chelsea, which opened in November, offers flat-screen TVs, nightly turndown service and high-speed Internet access. The boutique hotel is in a five-story building built in 1912 and renovated to reflect the chic, artsy feel of the neighborhood. Overnight rates start at $159 through Feb. 28.

The Wyndham Garden Hotel Chelsea features interior design by Michael Graves and is the first Wyndham Garden in Manhattan. Its rooms feature ergonomic desk chairs, LCD TVs and complimentary high-speed Internet access. Rates start at $169 per night through Feb. 26.

What's the savings?: A brand-new hotel in New York for under $200 a night? The savings are about 35 percent to 40 percent off best available rates.

What's the catch?: Hurry; the offer ends soon. And Chelsea is a little off the beaten path if your main goal is sightseeing. It is near Chelsea Piers and Penn Station.
