With warming lights built-in over the kitchen buffet, a club-style bar and game rooms in the basement, and a backyard pool and pool house, Kandi Slade's home in Baltimore County's Wakefield community has long been the place to gather.

There have been holiday parties, pool parties, big family dinners, children's birthday parties and a later addition - grandchildren's parties.

"I have had a Christmas Eve party in this house since 1979," she said, describing Santa Claus handing gifts to kids and groups gathering for songs at the player piano. "It started at 10 people, and it grew to 125. I downsized it this year to about 40."

But after 32 years in the house, Slade hopes to downsize her living space.

About the house : Built in 1962, the brick Cape Cod-style house in Timonium has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms and two powder rooms. Floors are hardwood throughout; roofs on the house and pool house are slate.

The kitchen's cherry cabinetry has a white baked-on finish. Counters are a white, solid surface. Among upgraded appliances are two wall ovens and instant hot water by the sink. The 81/2-foot-long island, with seating, includes a gas cooktop with a grill/griddle and downdraft exhaust.

A beverage nook in the kitchen features a wine bottle chiller, separate sink, ice maker and shelving for glasses.

In the living room, built-in cabinets and shelves flank the fireplace. The dining room has wainscoting below the chair rail.

In recent years, Slade modified the two fireplaces, one with a marble surround in the living room and the other with a brick hearth in the family room, from wood-burning to gas-fueled. A screened-in porch with a stone floor identical to the front porch's was finished into a sun room accessible through French doors from the family room and kitchen.
