Boys basketball

No. 3 Calvert Hall @ No. 5 Mt. St. Joseph

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Calvert Hall has looked sharp in winning 12 straight, particularly on defense, where the Cardinals have allowed fewer than 40 points in each of their past three games. They defeated Mount St. Joseph, 47-46, in the final of a tournament last month in Richmond, Va. The Gaels are led by Eric Atkins and Gerald Hill, who combined for 41 in a 63-40 win over then-No. 9 John Carroll on Sunday.

Boys basketball

No. 2 St. Frances @ No. 14 John Carroll

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: After facing two of its toughest foes in Lake Clifton and Mount St. Joseph, St. Frances faces another stiff challenge in John Carroll. Led by 6-foot-6 forward Terrell Vinson, the Panthers have outscored opponents by an average of 70-52. The Patriots are trying to reverse their recent fortunes after back-to-back losses to Towson Catholic and Mount St. Joseph.

THE BALTIMORE SUN'S PICK: St. Frances

Girls basketball

No. 9 Catonsville @ Dulaney

WHEN: Wednesday, 5 p.m.

OUTLOOK: A 51-47 win propelled Catonsville to the Baltimore County title a year ago, and this game could again decide who plays in the championship game. The Lions could have trouble stopping All-Metro G Shamika Williams, who had 25 points in last season's victory, and three-point shooter Shelby Polk. The Lions, led by senior C Emily Gladstone, have developed a well-balanced inside-outside game.
