No. 7 Mount St. Joe shuts down No. 9 John Carroll

Eric Atkins and Gerald Hill combined to score 41 points to power No. 7 Mount St. Joseph past No. 9 John Carroll, 63-40, yesterday.

The host Gaels (17-5) went on an 11-6 run to start the game, and tough defense kept all Patriots scorers in single digits.

Isaiah Philmore finished with five points for John Carroll (16-6).

Hill scored 21 points and Atkins added 20 for Mount St. Joseph, which led by as many as 13.

No. 3 Calvert Hall 53, St. Maria Goretti 28: : Jon Graham scored 14 points and Damion Lee added 12 as the host Cardinals (18-2) beat the Gaels.

Calvert Hall led 24-8 at the half.

No. 12 Towson Catholic 48, No. 13 Loyola 45: : Malcolm Sizer (seven points) went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line with 21 seconds left to put the Owls (10-8) up 46-45, and Walter Noel (10 points) made a layup with 13 seconds left to seal the win for host Towson Catholic.

Devin Spencer led the Owls with 11 points, and Brandon Floyd had 16 for the Dons.

Cardinal Gibbons 49, Archbishop Spalding 36: : Pat Dieringer scored a game-high 15 points to lead the host Crusaders past the Cavaliers (4-17).

Gibbons took a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and held off a third-quarter rally when Spalding tied the score at 29.

Andre Moore scored 13 points and Clif Jones added 12 for the Cavaliers.
