Girls basketball

No. 7 Archbishop Spalding @ No. 1 St. Frances

WHEN: Wednesday, 6 p.m.

OUTLOOK: The Cavaliers are one of few teams that could give the six-time defending Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference champions a challenge. They have a strong backcourt led by Jany Brinkley, but they also have height in 6-foot F Jordan Clinton. The Panthers, however, have exceptional speed and quickness in their back court with four strong guards. including All-Metro player Shatyra Hawkes. They're not as tough on the inside, but 5-foot-10 F Briana Hutchens plays much taller than her height.

THE BALTIMORE SUN'S PICK: St. Frances

Boys basketball

Severna Park @ No. 14 Arundel

WHEN: Friday, 6:45 p.m.

OUTLOOK: The host Wildcats began their impressive run with a convincing 77-54 season-opening win at Severna Park. The question this time around: Can the Falcons keep up? The Wildcats have received consistently strong all-around play from senior forward Auraum Nuiriankh and have a deep and quick backcourt led by R.J. Harris, Greg Rich and Dererick Rhodes that simply tires teams out. With the home team's focus on containing Severna Park senior Brendan Bold, the Falcons will need others to step up.
