Kipke joins New Americans Council

Del. Nicholaus R. Kipke, a Pasadena Republican, was sworn in Tuesday by Gov. Martin O'Malley as a member of the Maryland Council for New Americans.

O'Malley formed the council in January 2008 to make recommendations on new policies designed to speed up legal immigrants' inclusion into Maryland's economic and civic life.

Kipke has been in the House of Delegates since 2007. He is a member of the Health and Government Operations Committee and the subcommittees on Health Insurance and Minority Health Disparities.

'Be the Dream'

Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County will hold a "Be the Dream" event 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow Jan. 19 at all six club locations.

Ages 5 to 18 are invited to join in activities celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A community service project will be included. Activities will include arts projects, food collections for the needy, literacy programs, sports, handing out fire safety information, and writing to U.S. troops.

Adult volunteers are welcome to help with the children.
