Dance, cheer coaches sought

The Ellicott City Patriots Football & Cheer Program is seeking volunteer coaches with dance, cheer or gymnastic experience.

Needed are head and assistant coaches, teen coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, cheer gymnastic coaches, competition coaches and fitness trainers.

Training and certification is offered to those who participate.

Wills, legal program

Attorney Paul Nathan will be at Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, for the 60 Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 28.

Services will include simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to Howard County residents ages 60 and older. The cost of document preparation is on a sliding scale.

The program, sponsored by the Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging, is available on the fourth Wednesday of each month, except December.

Moms to meet : The MOMS Club of Ellicott City South, part of a nonprofit international organization that provides support for mothers who have chosen to stay home to raise children, meets to socialize, bring their children together and hear speakers. A nursery is open during meetings, although children are welcome to remain with their parents. Outings and activities are also planned, including a monthly event called "MOMS Night Out." Get happy : Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, is offering "Get Happy Hour" programs for those ages 50 and older who are interested in exercise classes but are working during the day. Carla Buehler, 410-313-1415.

* A Low-Impact Cardio Combo will teach basic cardio combinations in an easy format at 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $59 for 12 classes.

* Gentle Beginning Yoga, for those who want to build strength and grace through gentle stretches, will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $59 for 12 classes.

* Beginning Tai Chi will be offered at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is 14 classes for $69.

Free bridge : The Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center, 10481 Frederick Road, sponsors a bridge group from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; a pinochle group meets from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Those who attend are invited to take a lunch. Coffee, tea and treats will be provided. Donations are accepted for the snack fund. Duplicate bridge is available from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays.

Rec center : Mah-jongg is played at the Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center, 10481 Frederick Road, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Free.

A community service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Kiwanis-Wallas center. 410-313-7279.

Chess : The Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., sponsors a chess club for ages 13 and older from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players of all abilities are welcome, but they must know how to play chess. Snacks will be provided. 410-313-5077.

Learning English : The Miller branch library offers an English conversation club from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays for people who speak English as a second language and would like to practice conversation in a group setting. First-time participants must register in advance. 410-313-1950.
