Rights activist Snowden heads annual event of honor

The 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner honorees:

Gov. Martin O'Malley -- Maryland Citizens' Health Initiative Courageous Leadership Award

Sarah Flynn -- Dream Keepers Award

Maurice T. Bowden, Chineta Davis, Dr. Joe Freeman -- We Share the Dream Award

Alderman Samuel Shropshire -- Peacemaker Award

Richard B. Sims -- The Morris H. Blum Humanitarian Award

Vice Admiral Jeffrey L. Fowler, Mary B. Armstrong, Tywana Tyler -- Drum Major Award

This year's dinner will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at La Fontaine Bleu, 7514 Ritchie Highway. Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Call 410-760-4115.

Liz Barrett -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award from the Human Relations Commission of the City of Annapolis

Walter Caldwell -- George H. Phelps Jr. Distinguished Public Service Award

Thomas Edison -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Zeitgeist Award from the Anne Arundel County Community College Black Student Union

Larry Griffin -- Dallas G. Pace Sr. Humanitarian Award from the Anne Arundel County Human Relations Commission

Alderwoman Classie Hoyle -- Coretta Scott King Award from the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

Helen Scott -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award from the Anne Arundel Coalition of Tenants Inc.

Bishop Larry Lee Thomas Sr. -- Leon H. White Clergy Memorial Award from the United Christian Clergy Alliance of Anne Arundel County.

This year's breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Jan. 19 in the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium on the campus of Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway in Arnold. Tickets for the breakfast are $35 each or $350 for a table of 10. Please RSVP by Jan. 13 by calling Carl Snowden at 443-871-5656
